Try-It

The Try-It program is designed to introduce new swimmers to the sport of artistic swimming. Synchro gives us the unique opportunity to combine swimming, dance, and gymnastics.

We ask that participants be able to attend three classes in order to complete the program. Once the classes are completed the decision can be made to continue on to the Sculpins Novice team. Best of all, we offer participation in our Try-It program for free!

Additionally, all potential swimmers should be able to swim at least one lap of the pool unassisted, and also feel comfortable swimming and jumping into the deep end of the pool, also unassisted.

At practice one of our coaches will assess your child’s ability to swim on their front and back, tread water, and float on their back. Your child will learn the basic techniques to propel themselves through the water and practice fundamental synchro positions.

Novice

The Novice program is for beginner synchro swimmers who have attended Try-It practices and would like to continue swimming on a team. The Novice season runs September through June and holds practice twice a week.

At this level, our coaches use a variety of land and water exercises to improve athlete swimming ability, teach fundamental positions in the water, and prepare swimmers to perform a routine. Novices swim in a novice level competition, as well as perform in the Sculpins Winter and Spring Show.

Intermediate

The Intermediate program is typically for swimmers who have completed at least one year as a Novice. An older swimmer may also participate in the Intermediate program without having first been in the Novice program if they have exceptional swimming skills or have participated in dance or gymnastics.

Intermediate swimmers practice two to three days a week from September through June and participate in competitions that are both in-state and regional. The Intermediate program can be broken down into age groups: 10-under, 11/12, 13-15, and 16-over. Swimmers also have the opportunity to swim routines as a solo, duet, trio, and/or team.

Age Group

The Age Group track is the most rigorous program of the four. Swimmers on an Age Group team first began swimming at the Novice or Intermediate level before committing to Age Group.

Our Age Group swimmers work both on land and in the water to improve their strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Similarly to Intermediate, Age Group is divided by ages: 12-Under, 13-15, 16/17, and 18/19. Age Group swimmers practice 7-10 hours a week from September through June and compete in-state, regionally, and nationally.
